Peter a qualified social worker with over ten years’ experience of child protection and holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. His ESRC-funded PhD research project looked at social worker decision making in cases involving sexual behaviour between siblings. His interest in this subject grew from four years’ work with Lighthouse, a specialist Barnardo’s service working with children who display harmful sexual behaviour. He has published several articles on the subject of victim crossover and risk assessment and on the subject of sibling sexual abuse.


Peter is the co-author of Allardyce, S. and Yates, P. (2018) Working with children and young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour, Edinburgh, Dunedin Academic Press, which has been receiving some very positive reviews. He has presented at national and international conferences and seminars on the subject of children who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour and sibling sexual abuse. He had extensive experience of programme development, and his current role is Programme Lead for Social Work at Edinburgh Napier University.
